Nulten Oral – New Salon Opens

everyone was amazed at the unique addition to Nulten’s expansion and that is a Bridal Room

Friday 31st August saw the opening of a new hairdressing salon in Alsancak for Nulten Oral.   There was a huge crowd of customers and friends who had come to attend the opening and wish Nulten every success with the new salon.   The Mayor of Alsancak, Yucel Atakara, and the Mayor of Lapta, Fuat Namsoy, were there to cut the ribbon for the official opening.   Everyone congregated outside the very impressive purpose-built centre and Brian Delaney provided his relaxed style of music which made a nice background for the occasion.   The staff were busy scurrying around with drinks and nibbles and the guests were taking the opportunity of catching up with friends and acquaintances.

Nulten’s daughter, Julide, gave an opening speech, remarking that her mother had become stage-shy so she was doing the honours!  Julide recalled the early days, 13 years ago when she was the shampoo assistant and receptionist and Nulten the stylist.   This was at the first premises in Girne.

Nulten started her hairdressing career in London 30 years ago and in 1998 she moved to North Cyprus, her parents’ birthplace,  and set up her first salon.  In 2007 the first officially approved training school was opened which offers basic and advanced training.  The centre’s curriculum was approved by the UK’s vocational awarding organisation – City & Guilds – and since then the Centre has received approval from ITEC which is a premier International Awarding Organisation for qualifications in customer service, beauty and spa, hairdressing, complementary therapy and sports and fitness.  Nulten was herself a qualified fitness instructor when she lived in the UK.

The 2 Mayors, together with Julide, cut the ribbon and there was then an appearance by 4 models showing the work of Laura – a qualified stylist who works at the salon, and students Turkan, Sibel and Harlie.  The styling had been going on while the guests were all congregating outside the building.   I spoke to one of the models who is a dancer and is at GAU where she performs with the Dance Academy.  I must say her hair looked lovely and I was also impressed with the style on one of the male models I managed to catch sight of.

The guests then made their way into the salon to look around.  This is indeed an extremely modern and well-designed salon and obviously a lot of thought has been given to the comfort and requirements of the customer.  It is light and airy with comfortable seating for shampooing and styling and even a handbag cupboard for personal possessions to be stowed away.   The salon has 14 styling units, 4 backwash units with electric support and adjustment to give complete comfort for the client.  There is a grand colour bar and a beauty room, all beautifully laid out.  There is also an entrance for wheelchair access which must be a tremendous boost for disabled people, again a lot of thought given to customers.

I think everyone was amazed at the unique addition to Nulten’s expansion and that is a Bridal Room which has one wall very tastefully decorated with tulips (this is another passion of Nulten, to do what she can for Help Those with Cancer Association – Tulips).   The room has a back entrance so the bride can enter and leave without going through the main salon.  Nulten said  “We recognised that brides needed their own space so building a designated bridal room made perfect sense”.   So what a perfect way for brides to start their big day having their hair and make-up done in a beautiful private room with a stylist and make-up artist making them feel so special.

The Beauty Room is another well laid out and equipped room and Sally will be now working here at the new salon to pamper clients with whatever they choose from the extensive list of products.

I managed to have a few words with Nulten during her very busy evening and she told me that the upper floor is not yet completed and it is hoped it will be ready early next year.  This will then become the Training Centre and a fully equipped fitness studio will also be included in this next phase.

The other salon in Kyrenia is to remain although it will be reduced in size and there will be 2 stylists permanently manning this facility.  Nulten’s intention is to spend one day a week there, maybe not the same day each week but the staff will be aware of her movements and can make bookings accordingly.

As I use the Kyrenia salon I will stay with the staff there as it is much closer to home but for my next appointment I will be going to the new salon in Alsancak and I am really looking forward to being pampered in these lovely surroundings.   Guess what, during the evening the guests were handed a tray to take a “lucky dip” and I won a “free blow-dry with all colours”.  I had already made an appointment to take advantage of the 50% offer which is available until 31st October 2012, and now the lucky prize is going to make my visit even more enjoyable.

I am sure that all of Nulten’s customers will join me in wishing her well with her new and very forward thinking enterprise.
