A wonderful first year for Royal British Legion, Kyrenia Branch

The Royal British Legion, Kyrenia Branch will now be going to the Royal Albert Hall in November.

The Branch, the first ever Royal association in the TRNC, was officially recognised under the Turkish Community Parliament Associations and Societies Act and registered with the District officer (Kaymakam) on July 15 2011. The official launch party then took place on October 1 the same year in the presence of over 50 VIP’s including the British High Commissioner Matthew Kidd.

Following the mandatory six month waiting period the Branch then formally applied for charitable status in January 2012 through the Branch Solicitor, Peyman Erginel, and this was then officially approved by the Council of Ministers on May 16 2012 and formally given ‘Charitable Status’ by the TRNC Government.

Since those early times the branch has been hard at work with many successful and enjoyable events and the membership has grown to over 400 and they have been invited to join with the Royal Navy and their “Splice the Mainbrace” celebrations.

The Vice-Chairman of the RBL Kyrenia Branch and ex Royal Marine bandsman, Les Evans is organising an event which will take place at 3pm on Tuesday, August 7 appropriately at the Crows Nest in Karaman and will be officiated by the Commanding Officer of HMS Excellent, Commander Paul Jones RN.

The other news received from the Branch Committee is they were delighted to inform their members that Kim Tyler, their branch Standard Bearer has been selected to represent the Branch at the Festival of Remembrance in the Royal Albert Hall on 10th November 2012.
