By Steven Roberts……..

Easter may not be celebrated officially here in North Cyprus, but the Karsel restaurant in Boğaz Harbour played host to a busy Easter Saturday Market, complete with a number of Easter bonnets on display.

Those who know the lovely little fishing harbour in the village, will also know that it is home to a number of cute cats who feed off fish scraps from the harbour, and food supplied by diners in the various local restaurants. Iskele resident Jan McGhee (originally from Scotland) runs a popular market at Karsel every Saturday morning to raise money to help look after the cats, cover vet’s bills etc., and most importantly to pay for neutering in an attempt to control the local feline population!

This week in addition to Jan’s usual stall with its clothes, books, videos and bric-a-brac there were other stalls in aid of a number of good causes including a charity for the elderly, kennels for stray dogs in Famagusta, and even a school dance team.

There was a steady flow of people visiting all morning, and a wide variety of goods on offer. The stalls seemed to be doing a brisk trade, and at one time there was even a queue of people wanting to buy raffle tickets.

Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to make this event such a success.
