Leaders to meet today
The intensified Cyprus negotiations, which aim to find a solution to the Cyprus problem, continue today after a six day break.
President Mustafa Akıncı and the Leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Anastasiades will meet today at 18:30 at the buffer zone.
Following today’s meeting, the leaders are going to meet on 26 and 31 October, 2016.
Akıncı and Ban reaffirmed that they agreed on the target of the end of 2016 for a solution
The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon held a telephone conservation with President Mustafa Akıncı.
Expressing his satisfaction with the progress achieved in the negotiation process, Ban guaranteed that his upmost support will continue during the next phase of the talks.
President Akıncı thanked the Secretary-General for his close interest in the negotiations, and conveyed his thoughts to Ban regarding the next phase of the negotiation process.
President Akıncı and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reaffirmed that they agreed with the same target: reaching a solution by the end of 2016.
According to a statement, President Akıncı and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also agreed to hold a meeting in the near future.
