North Cyprus Trevor’s Tips for August 2016

Road Fund Licence [car tax]
Rumours are abounding, the cost of road tax is to be abolished and absorbed into the price of petrol. This is still at the Governmental discussion stage, because there are a number of factors that still need to be “ironed out”. As soon as I know something, I will let you know!!
This is not hearsay, I have been to the Tax Office to find out on your behalf.
Because of the excessive heat this year, leaving your mobile phone in the car or anywhere else in direct sunlight will make the phone cut itself off as a safety feature to protect itself from self combusting. The quickest way to get your phone operational again, is to pop it in the fridge; your phone should come back to life in a matter of minutes. Better still; keep it out of direct sunlight.
If you expose your steering wheel to long periods of direct sunlight, eventually the covering will detach itself from the steering wheel itself. When parking your vehicle in the sun, always cover the steering wheel with a sun reflector cover, or even a hand towel. This will help protect the wheel and avoid unnecessary cost when the time comes to replace it [it is not repairable].
When considering purchasing a second hand car, check the steering wheel to see if it has a cover fitted, as this is a sure sign the wheel has been sun affected. Also, hold the steering wheel in both hands and twist the wheel in order to see if the wheel has been affected.
In order to help their customers try and avoid steering wheel damage, Dagli Sigorta is giving steering wheel protectors away free of charge to their customers, and can be collected from either their office in Karaoglanoglu, or their Lambousa Saturday Market stall, with their compliments.

During the current hot spell, lap tops will need extra help to keep them cool when working on them. You can purchase a twin fan cooler, which your lap top sits on, from Laconic for only a few TL.
It will also help prolong the lap top life expectancy.
There are two Bayram holidays this month where Government/Local Government offices and Banks will be closed, on Monday 1st August and Tuesday 30th August 2016.
Fake Lithium Batteries
I watched a BBC 2 programme entitled “Fake Britain” on Tuesday 25th July, highlighting caution when purchasing fake/cheap lithium batteries.
If you get the chance to watch this programme, the damage they cause is truly frightening and may change your mind when purchasing a cheap replacement for your laptop, Ipad, mobile phone, or any other device operating on a battery backup system.
We had several cockroaches in our drains which needed my attention and chose a product called “Rest On”. It’s in a black plastic spray bottle with a lime green nozzle. I spray the inspection drains every 2-3 weeks and “bingo” no more cockroaches. The liquid bottle can be purchased from most Yapi markets at a price of 20TL each and lasts for ages!
The amount of people informing other people that they are on holiday and or out of the Country enjoying themselves need to keep in mind that they are also informing potential thieves that their property is not being lived in and ripe for burglary. Just keep this in mind, please.
