CTFF President Sertoğlu: “Membership process to KOP started”

President of Cyprus Turkish Football Federation (CTFF) Hasan Sertoğlu stated that starting from yesterday (30th March), membership process to KOP has started. The letter regarding accession process was sent to FIFA, UEFA, KOP and Prime Ministry and Deputy Prime Ministry.

In his press conference regarding the KOP-CTFF accession period which was organized at the headquarters of the Federation, Sertoğlu said that they will continue the process for the advantage of the country’s sports and sportsmen.

Furthermore, adding that a harmonization study should be made in 5 articles for the FIFA laws and regulations and one of these articles is the amendment of the regulation, Sertoğlu said that in 40-45 days, this amendment will be made and submitted to approval of the CTFF General Council. Sertoğlu stressed that a new process has started in Turkish Cypriot football.

Eide to arrive in Cyprus on 6 April

UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide will arrive in Cyprus on 6^th April, Monday.

Eide will be received by President Derviş Eroğlu on 7^th April and he will meet with leaders and negotiators until 8^th April.

According to the statement of UN, Eide is coming to the island to follow up on the encouraging indications received during his last trip to the island regarding a possible resumption of the negotiations.

Eide will meet bilaterally with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders to continue discussions on prospects for the resumption of talks in the spring.

Together with his Good Offices team, he will also meet bilaterally with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot negotiators in support of their substantive preparations.

The Special Adviser continues to be optimistic about the prospects for a return to structured, results-oriented negotiations, and looks forward to this visit as an important step towards renewing the momentum in the talks.

TRNC Immovable Property Commission at Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

It was stated that establishment and functioning of the TRNC Immovable Property Commission has taken place in the report submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe by the European People Party group member French Yves Pozzo di Borgo at the European Parliament.

According to the Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros, it was expressed in the report of Borgo which was submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that establishment of Immovable Property Commission is a kind of activity which can contribute to decrease the cases in the European Court of Human Rights.

It was also stated in the report that establishment of TRNC Immovable Property Commission opened the way for returning of cases from ECHR to Cyprus.

Came from Brazil with 2.5 kilos of cocaine

It has been reported that a Greek Cypriot came to Larnaca Airport with 2.5 kilos of cocaine in his luggage from Brazil the previous day and he was arrested by the Greek police teams.

Simerini newspaper published in Southern Cyprus wrote that after arriving at the airport suspicious behaviour of a 34 year old Greek Cypriot caught attention and was being watched by the police, he was arrested after he left the airport with a vehicle at a petrol station where he stopped to get petrol.

Öneri: “Total number of voters is 176,912”

The Supreme Election Board (YSK) Chairman Şafak Öneri stated that after the suspension period for the TRNC Presidential and Local Organizations Special Elections the number of voters are 176,912.

Öneri stated that voters across the country will vote at 693 ballot boxes and the numbers of voters according to districts are: Lefkoşa 55 thousand 763, Gazimağusa 45 thousand 992, Girne 35 thousand 397, Güzelyurt 20 thousand 809, İskele 18 thousand 951.

Universities Association is founded

Six universities in the TRNC came together and founded the Universities Association for moving the vision of higher education forward, taking on assignments at international receptions and for the purpose of solving the problems of universities.

Association and board set by Cyprus International University (CIU), Kyrenia American University (GAU), Mediterranean Karpas University (AKÜ), British Nicosia University (BNÜ), Cyprus American University (KAU) and Metropolitan University (MU) was introduced at a press conference yesterday.

In the speech he made at the meeting Serhat Akpınar expressed that this is an historic day in the higher education of the country and expressed that 6 universities that came together are undertaking duty as the primary founders of the Association.

Zivania registered in TRNC Geographically

Zivania that is produced in Cyprus since the Venetian period is registered as a Geographical Sign and Traditionally Featured Product by the TRNC authorities.

Registration Certificate of the names of Geographical Signs and Traditionally Featured Products was given to Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry (CTCI) President Ali Çıralı by the Official Registry Office Director Ahmet Nergiz at an event organized at KTSO.

The document is not valid in Turkey or Europe but it is considered as a step towards launching a venture to Turkish Patent Institute and the European Union.
